Rest In Peace, Burt Keppler

It is with a heavy heart that I must report the death of Herbert Keppler, former publisher of Modern and Popular Photography magazines.

I have just posted an obituary on the Adorama News Desk.

It is a very sad day for me personally as Burt was my first boss and gave me my big break in the photo industry at Modern Photography in 1983. For the photo industry, it marks the end of an era. But I have lost a co-worker and a good, loyal friend.

Hello Mason,
Really sorry about Mr. Keppler. I've always admired him. On The Online Photographer I added a link to your Adorama News Desk piece at the bottom of the link to Jason Schneider's tribute.

I didn't know Mr. Keppler personally, however, he has been a guiding light from my first years of trying to be a photgrapher with my Pentax Spotmatic in hand.

He was someone I could read and learn what was important in making good photographs not what was cool or trendy. So many of the writers wrote as if we all had unlimited funds or tons of free eqipment to use. Mr. Keppler was grounded and made photography accessible to anyone who wanted to improve their skill and equipment without robbing banks to accomplish this.

I'll miss getting my PopPhoto and going directly to him. He is a huge loss to all.
